Presentation
Young female with a history of trauma a few days ago and increasing right orbital proptosis after trauma.
Patient Data
MR demonstrates elliptical shaped well demarcated T1 mild hyperintense, T2 hyperintense fluid signal intensity collection in extraconal space of superior quadrant of the right orbit. No septations within the collection and no enhancement after IV contrast administration. No destruction of adjacent bones, no intraconal or intracranial extension. There is proptosis on right.
Findings and patients history most keeping with the orbital subperiosteal hematoma.
Case Discussion
Orbital subperiosteal hematoma not very common post-traumatic condition. It can occur after facial and head trauma and involves rupture of orbital subperiosteal vessels. In most cases patients present with proptosis, diplopia and painful eyeball movement.
