Orbital trauma with displaced lens

Case contributed by Dr Saqba Farooq

Young male presenting after getting hit on the face with a bat. Left eye was closed shut due to swelling and could not be clinically asessed.

There is complete posterior subluxation of  the lens which is lying within the vitreous humor.

Case Discussion

Blunt trauma to the eye can deform the globe which causes the zonular attachments that hold the lens in position to stretch and tear. The lens may dislocate posteriorly or, less commonly, anteriorly.
