Orthopedic hardware induced tenosynovitis (wrist)

Presentation

Screw-plate fixation across fracture of the distal end of left radius about 6 months prior. Presented with left dorsal wrist pain and swelling for the last 2 days.

Patient Data

Age: 25 years
Gender: Male

There is anechoic effusion involving 4th extensor compartment. 4th compartment tendons are intact and show free movements on dynamic scanning. A screw is protruding through dorsal cortex of the radius and impinging the 4th extensor compartment.

Case Discussion

The case shows orthopedic hardware induced 4th extensor compartment tenosynovitis. There is no tendinosis or tendon tear which should be looked for in such a case.
