Right shoulder pain and weakness for the last 2 months. Clinical diagnosis - rotator cuff tear. Patient referred for sonography to check rotator cuff status.

Os acromiale


A tear of supraspinatus and infraspinatus tendons with 3 cm retraction falls under massive tear category. A tear of tendon results in loss of muscle belly function. This causes muscle atrophy and fatty infiltration. Just posterior to acromioclavicular joint, 'another joint' is noted

Case Discussion

An os acromiale represents an unfused accessory ossification center of the acromion of the scapula.
