Presentation

Painful first toe.

Patient Data

Age: 35-40 years
Gender: Female
ct

3 x 3 x 5 mm well corticated ossicle at the plantar aspect of the first interphalangeal joint. No acute fracture or focal osseous lesion are identified. No large joint effusion with the limitations of CT. Normal appearance of the hallux sesamoids. 

Case Discussion

Os interphalangeus is an uncommon accessory ossicle. They should not be mistaken for a fracture. Sometimes they can be symptomatic - it is unclear in this case if this is a cause for pain or not.
