Presentation

Pain in the left foot with difficulty in loading on left lower limb and noticed swelling in the foot

Patient Data

Age: 10 years
Gender: Female
x-ray

Alignment is normal. No fracture or acute joint abnormality.

Incidental accessory navicular bone is noted.

A type II accessory navicular bone is present with bone marrow edema affecting the accessory ossicle and medial navicular bone on fluid-sensitive sequences.

Case Discussion

Accessory navicular syndrome happens when a type II accessory navicular bone causes pain due to movement across the pseudo-joint between the ossicle and the navicular bone.
