Os odontoideum

Case contributed by Dr Maxime St-Amant

Neck pain following fall.

Patient Data

Age: 35
Gender: Male

The inferior part of odontoid is discontinuous but the base of the odontoid well-corticated. A well-defined ossicle is seen in the location of the tip of the odontoid.

No evidence of fracture.

The findings from the previous radiograph are confirmed. There is moderate posterior subluxation of C1/C2, suggesting atlantoaxial instability.

Case Discussion

The findings are in keeping with os odontoideum.
