Os patella cubiti

Case contributed by Hector Rivera-Melo
Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

Patient presents to a chiropractor with elbow pain after doing pull-ups.

Patient Data

Age: 50 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

Smooth, well-corticated osseous density adjacent to the olecranon process at the insertion of the triceps tendon. The olecranon process is intact with no evidence of a donor site.

Case Discussion

This accessory ossicle is considered a rare variant sesamoid within the distal triceps brachii tendon. Differential considerations could include non-union of an old olecranon fracture, un-united secondary growth centre of the olecranon and hydroxyapatite deposition within the triceps tendon
