Presentation

Right ankle pain.

Patient Data

Age: 14 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

Well corticated ossicle at the tip of the lateral malleolus. No acute fracture. Soft tissue swelling over the lateral malleolus. 

Six years prior

x-ray

Lateral malleolus avulsion fracture (Weber A) with associated soft tissue swelling. 

Case Discussion

Most os subfibulare are thought to be traumatic in origin, especially when the trauma occurs in childhood. This case clearly demonstrates the formation of a post traumatic os subfibulare.
