Presentation

Bilateral knee joint pain in a physically active adolescent.

Patient Data

Age: 12 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

Fragmented apophysis at both tibial tuberosities more pronounced on the right side with subtle overlying soft tissue swelling is noted.

Case Discussion

Osgood-Schlatter disease occurs as a result of chronic fatigue injury due to repeated microtrauma at the insertion of patellar ligament onto the tibial tuberosity, it usually affecting adolescent boys especially those who are involved in jumping and kicking. It is bilateral in 25-50% of the cases.
