Presentation
Incidental finding on a MRI Brain performed for dementia assessment.
Patient Data
Note: This case has been tagged as "legacy" as it no longer meets image preparation and/or other case publication guidelines.
Selected images from MRI Brain demonstrate a right parafalcine well defined lesion that shows high T1 signal and is consistent with a focal area of ossification on the falx cerebri.
Selected images demonstrating a right parafalcine ossification of the falx cerebri.
Case Discussion
Falx calcification and falx ossification are interchangeable terms in the radiology literature. They represent a benign condition and have, as in this case, a typical appearance on MRI consisting of a central marrow-containing portion with signal intensity similar to fat (bright on T1), surrounded by low signal intensity representing cortical bone. On CT there is no difficulty in identifying those findings.
