Osteochondritis dissecans of the femoral head

Demarcation of subchondral osseous fragments in the left femoral head. The sharply delineated T2 hyperintense signal lines between and around the fragments indicate an unstable lesion. There is also some effusion in the left hip joint.
Case Discussion
Osteochondritis dissecans of the femoral head is rare, even in children and adolescents. In a larger series of 17 cases, the main underlying causes were deformities following Legg-Calvé-Perthes disease, posttraumatic, and idiopathic 1. The latter also applies to this case.
