Multiple calcified/ossified loose bodies are seen at popliteal fossa, indicating osteochondromatosis. Osteo-arthritic changes with knee effusion is also noted.

Case Discussion

Radiographic features of osteochondromatosis:

  • Typical finding is of multiple, smooth, oval-shaped calcified/ossified nodules within the joint space or bursa
  • Additional radiographic findings include joint effusion, bone erosion, regional osteoporosis and degenerative changes such as joint space narrowing, subchondral sclerosis, and osteophyte formation.
