Presentation

Lower leg pain associated with soft tissue swelling.

Patient Data

Age: 20
Gender: Male
Modality: X-ray

An ill defined sclerotic area affecting the metaphysis of distal fibula with an aggressive periosteal reaction (sunburst type).

This lesion involves the adjacent posterior aspect of tibia and the calcaneum inferiorly.

It is associated with a moderately large soft tissue swelling.

Case Discussion

Case of osteosarcoma.

A malignant bone tumor accounting for 20% of primary bone tumors.

Generally affects the metaphyses.

The fibula is one of the less common bones to be affected.
