Patient Data

Age: 40 years
Gender: Male

Nasal septum deviated to the right side, with mild hypertrophy of the right inferior nasal turbinate. Bilateral concha bullosa noted. Sclerotic focus in the right concha bullosa, measuring 6x3 mm with an HU value of 1826, suggestive of osteoma. Minimal mucosal thickening in the right maxillary sinus.
Post-traumatic soft tissue swelling over the right cheek.

Final diagnosis: osteoma of concha bullosa.

Case Discussion

Concha bullosa is defined as pneumatization of the middle nasal turbinate, a natural variant, and is quite common. These are generally asymptomatic. Osteomas are slow-growing benign bone tumors, quite frequently detected during paranasal sinus imaging. However, osteoma in concha bullosa is rarely reported and is thought to be one of the causes of rhinogenic headache 2.
