Presentation

Painless swelling on left side of scalp.

Patient Data

Age: 15 years
Gender: Male
ct

A well defined bony lesion 1.5 x 1.2 cm in size bulging from outer table of left parietal bone near the coronal suture without surrounding soft tissue.

Case Discussion

Osteomas should be distinguished from osteochondromas, which have a cartilaginous (lucent) area and occasional speckled foci of calcified cartilage matrix. Osteochondromas may have marrow contained within the stalk, continuous with the marrow cavity of the parent bone. Osteomas do not have a marrow cavity.
