Osteomyelitis (first digit proximal phalanx)

Delayed presentation following dog bite to right thumb. In theatre for washout and exploration, frank pus expressed from bone and check x-ray performed.

Patient Data

Age: 30
Gender: Female

Fracture at base of the proximal phalanx of the right thumb extending to the articular surface. Associated overlying soft tissue injury. No foreign body visualized.

Case Discussion

This patient had repeated washouts of this wound and joint.  There was no significant growth on culture of the expressed pus.
