Presentation
Right index finger infection, not getting better.
Patient Data

There is soft tissue swelling and cortical irregularity of the distal phalanx of the second digit. No fractures or subluxations identified. Findings suggestive of osteomyelitis of the distal second phalanx.

There is diffuse soft tissue swelling involving the distal second digit as well as marrow edema involving the distal phalanx confirming osteomyelitis. There is also a low signal region involving the volar aspect of the distal second phalangeal soft tissue which may represent soft tissue necrosis.
Case Discussion
Osteomyelitis in this patient was found as a result of an infected ingrown fingernail.
