Presentation

Skin ulcer and inflammatory changes at the third right toe.

Patient Data

Age: 70-year-old
Gender: Male
X-ray

Forefoot radiographs

There is a partial destruction of the distal phalanx of the third toe associated with soft tissue swelling. Joint spaces and the remainder of the imaged bones are preserved. 

Case Discussion

In this clinical scenario, osteomyelitis is the most likely cause for the third toe tuft destruction.
