Age: 50 years
Gender: Male

There is linear subchondral lucency in the left femoral head, seen best on the oblique projection ("cresent sign"). There is irregularity of the left femoral head articular surface. 

Case Discussion

This patient was known to have avascular necrosis/osteonecrosis of the left femoral head, and went on to a successful left total hip replacement. They were found to be osteoporotic on pathology examination of bone fragments.
