Osteopathia striatia

Case contributed by Dr Sinéad Culleton

Presentation

Bilateral knee pain following a minor fall.

Modality: X-ray

Bilateral vertical striations in the metaphysis and epiphysis of the right and left femur, tibia and fibula.

Case Discussion

Osteopathia striata condition is mostly an incidental finding and is typically asymptomatic. There are linear striations of increased radiopacity extending from the metaphyses into the diaphyses of tubular bones. A "sunburst" arrangement of the striations in flat bones such as in the ilium may be seen1.
