Presentation

Recurrent infection of the right zygomatic area.

Patient Data

Age: 11 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

Skull shows widened diploic space and vertical striations running perpendicularly in diploic space (hair-on-end appearance) at the right parietal bone.

Erlenmeyer flask deformity

x-ray

Erlenmeyer flask deformity also known as metaphyseal flaring seen in both femurs, on a background of densely sclerotic bones. There is bilateral coxa vara deformity.

Sandwich vertebrae

x-ray

The thoracic and lumbar spine displays the sandwich vertebrae appearance.

x-ray

Fractures in the proximal segment of the 4th proximal phalanx and distal ends of the 2nd, 3rd and 5th proximal phalanges of the right hand.

Case Discussion

On x-ray, incidental finding of increased osseous density was seen prompting a skeletal survey for further evaluation.
