Osteoporotic spinal compression fracture

Case contributed by Dr Fakhry Mahmoud Ebouda

Presentation

Severe back pain following fall on the floor.

Patient Data

Age: 59 years
Modality: X-ray

Coarse trabecular pattern of the examined bones reflecting osteoporotic texture. Remarkable decrease height of D12 vertebral body.

Modality: X-ray

BMD measures taken from lumbar spine and left femoral head revealed osteopenia.

Modality: CT

Structural collapse and decreased height of T12. It shows deformed appearance & posterior retropulsion. The posterior retropulsion tightens the spinal canal at that level. Relative reduction of height with depressed upper VEP of T10.Osteoportic pattern of the examined bones.

Modality: MRI

Structural collapse and decreased height of T12. It shows deformed appearance & posterior retropulsion. The posterior retropulsion indents the related ventral related aspect of the spinal cord and tightens the spinal canal at that level.Osseous haemangioma of T8.

Case Discussion
