Presentation
Large and painful indurated growth at left arm. Growth was noticed over a few months.
Patient Data
An ill-defined permeative mixed lesion is noted on the proximal meta-diaphysis of the left humerus. There is multilayered and sunburst periosteal reaction surrounding the lesion.
Soft tissue mass at the lateral aspect of the proximal humerus and Codman triangle are suggestive of soft tissue extension.
Case Discussion
Features are suggestive of osteosarcoma: ill-defined permeative mixed metaphyseal lesion in an immature skeleton with aggressive periosteal reaction.
A biopsy was performed and the histopathology report concluded the lesion was a central high-grade osteosarcoma.
Osteosarcomas are the second most common primary malignant bone tumor, after multiple myeloma. They are more common in boys than girls, typically peaking between 10 and 20 years of age.
