Osteosarcoma - femur

8 years-old boy with pain and a large area of swelling around the knee. Clinical symptoms for about 5 months.

Age: 8 years
Gender: Male

There is a bone tumor characterized by an aggressive periosteal reaction and soft tissue component involving the distal femur.

Case Discussion

Osteogenic sarcoma is the sixth leading cancer in children under age 15 and it corresponds to approximately a fifth of all bone cancers. Complete radical surgical/en bloc resection is the treatment of choice for most cases. 

This case was discussed in a multidisciplinary meeting where the final diagnosis was announced.
