Presentation
Pelvic swelling.
Patient Data
A well defined large sized pelvic thin-walled cystic lesion which is not clearly separable from the right ovary, measuring about 17 x 16 x 15 cm, with a fat-fluid level and multiple Rokitansky soft tissue nodules of 4 x 3.5 cm in diameter at the junction of the fat-fluid level and few septations. No ossification or calcification within the mass is seen. The mass caused extrinsic indentation of the urinary bladder, uterus, and sigmoid colon.
Case Discussion
Mature cystic teratomas account for ~15% (range 10-20%) of all ovarian neoplasms. They tend to be identified in young women, typically around the age of 30 years 1 and are also the most common ovarian neoplasm in patients younger than 20 years 2.
