Presentation

Lower abdominal pain since 2 months

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Female
ultrasound

A well-defined right ovarian cyst with low level echoes seen with a rounded echogenic component within the cyst. No abnormal vascularity noted.

mri

A well defined fat containing cystic lesion of right ovary is noted with a dependent internal solid focus showing restricted diffusion suggestive of Rokitansky nodule. No complications.

Case Discussion

Ovarian dermoid cyst also known as mature cystic ovarian teratoma is a slow growing, most common ovarian neoplasm, having all the three germ cell layer components, that is from endoderm, mesoderm and ectoderm.

It contains echogenic mural component called Rokitansky protuberance, fat, fat-fluid levels, calcification and hairs.

Larger lesions are usually managed surgically.
