Ovarian serous cystadenocarcinoma

Case contributed by Jonathan Bong
Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

One week history of upper abdominal pain, increasing abdominal distension and discomfort.

Patient Data

Age: 80 years
Gender: Female

There are 2 heterogenous low density ovoid lesions present in the left side of the pelvis. The anterior lesion likely represents the left ovary. The posterior lesion measures 27mm which likely represents the Ovarian serous cystadenocarcinoma.

The study shows that there is a large volume of ascites. There is a large soft tissue density mass in the greater omentum and subtle enhancement of the peritoneum.

The findings are consistent with extensive metastatic peritoneal disease, possibly an ovarian primary.

Case Discussion

The omental deposit was biopsied and histology shows serous carcinoma consistent with an ovarian primary. CA 125 was 623 kU/L
