Ovarian torsion

Presentation

Acute and severe right lower abdominal pain with nausea and vomiting.

Patient Data

Age: 10 years
Gender: Female
ultrasound

The right ovary is edematous enlarged hypoechoic with areas of hyperechoic central stoma, and peripheral displacement of the follicles. No venous or arterial flow seen within the ovary on color Doppler. Note mild free fluid seen around the ovary on the transverse section.

The left ovary appears normal in size and echotexture with small follicles.
