Follow-up after radical hysterectomy and radiation therapy for cervical cancer.

Patient Data

Age: 40 years
Gender: Female

Abdominal radiograph

  • surgical clips from radical hysterectomy with pelvic and paraaortic lymph node removal
  • single surgical clip in each paracolic gutter above pelvic brim marks position of respective ovary
ct
  • cystic structure with thick enhancing wall in right ovary, most probably corpus luteal cyst
  • no evidence of disease recurrence

Case Discussion

A radiologist unaware of the widely accepted practice of ovarian transposition (oophoropexy) prior to pelvic radiation therapy may misdiagnose the transposed ovaries as metastases or disease recurrence.
