Obstetric ultrasound of a 22 weeks pregnant woman

Patient Data

Age: Pregnant
Gender: Female
Modality: Ultrasound

Severe oligohydramnios and an enlarged abdomen circumference caused by enlarged kidneys.  

Both kidneys were replaced by numerous irregular cystic structures (1-3mm)  with echogenic tissue separating it. The contour is a bit lobulated.

Case Discussion

This case is a type of cystic kidney disease of childhood, with the main differential diagnosis being Autosomal Recessive Polycystic Kidney Disease (ARPKD) and Bilateral Multicystic Dysplastic Kidney (MCDK).
