Paget disease - right thumb

Case contributed by Dr Neeraj Purohit

Presentation

Pain, inflammation and deformity of hands

Patient Data

Age: 90 years
Gender: Female
X-ray

Bilateral small joint degeneration of the hands.

Right thumb metacarpal - bony expansion and coarsening of the trabeculae consistent with Paget's disease. Almost certainly unrelated to the patients presenting complaint.

Case Discussion

The changes in the right 1st metacarpal bone are classic of Paget disease and very unlikely to be the cause of the pain.
