Presentation
Painful subcutaneous nodular mass in the right palm that developed in two weeks.
Patient Data
A very superficial, circumscribed subcutaneous lesion is demonstrated containing echogenic, and almost completely anechoic, fluid-filled regions, with no significant increase of local vascularity.
The appearance of the lesion can be better appreciated in the cine loop.
Case Discussion
The lesion was described as a partially demarcated abscess, and was consequently surgically resected, during which it was found to contain a collection of pus and debris. Microbiological analysis demonstrated the presence of Finegoldia magna, an anaerobic bacterium that is part of the GI/GU normal flora.
