Presentation

Blunt abdominal trauma with consequent vomiting and pain in epigastrium.

Patient Data

Age: 10 years
Gender: Female

Axial images were obtained after contrast. Oral contrast was also administered. Moderate hemoperitoneum is present. Pancreas appears swollen. Evidence of pancreatic injury is seen in the region of the neck. A decrease in vascular enhancement and low attenuation areas seen in the head, uncinate process, body and tail of pancreas. All these findings are most likely due to pancreatic transection.

Case Discussion

The pancreatic injury is relatively uncommon in trauma and many grading scales have been proposed for pancreatic injury and pancreatic trauma.
