Papillary thyroid carcinoma

Case contributed by Dr Garth Kruger

Coincidental finding on CT neck. Ultrasound suggested.

Patient Data

Age: 40 years old
Gender: Female

Another "snapshot" of biopsy confirmed thyroid imaging.

Small solid lesion. Just one or two calcifications also present. The teaching point ("snapshot" ) is the fact that the lesion does not have  a halo around it. The lesion is ragged and in places the differentiation between lesion and parenchyma is not possible.

Case Discussion

Confirmed 11 mm papillary carcinoma left lobe thyroid. Even though the lesion is on the 10 mm cut-off for FNAC, the absent halo makes a compelling case to intervene.
