Parameniscal cyst

Case contributed by Dr Mostafa El-Feky

Right knee pain.

Patient Data

Age: 40 years
Gender: Female

Right Knee joint

A well-circumscribed T2 high-signal multilobular cystic lesion is apparent ventral to the anterior horn of lateral meniscus, indenting the infrapatellar fat, measures 3 x 2.1 x 1.6 cm. It is surrounding the anterior horn of the lateral meniscus and extending to its attachments, in keeping of parameniscal cyst.

Case Discussion

Parameniscal cysts appear as fluid-filled cystic lesions around the meniscus. Loculations / septations are common. Those related to lateral meniscus most commonly arise from its anterior aspect. They have a very high association with meniscal tears in all locations except the anterior horn lateral meniscus (AHLM) 1.
