Parapharyngeal pleomorphic adenoma

Case contributed by Dr Roberto Schubert

Incidental finding in an MRI of the cervical spine for suspected disc disease.

Patient Data

Age: 30
Gender: Male

Ovoid mass in the prestyloid parapharyngeal space on the right with sharp borders, inhomogeneous T2 signal, and only faint enhancement.

Case Discussion

About half of masses in this compartment arise from salivary gland tissue, mostly from the deep parotid lobe. Pleomorphic adenoma is the most common of these.
