Parathyroid adenoma

Immediately inferior to the left lower thyroid pole is a hypoechoic ovoid nodule with an apparent polar vessel on Doppler.
Case Discussion
The patient underwent a parathyroidectomy.
Histopathology
Macroscopic description: Left parathyroid: One tan tissue nodule, 13 x 7 x 3 mm, fixed weight: 0.19 g.
Microscopic description: Sections show a nodular, hypercellular area of parathyroid tissue, with some adjacent normal parathyroid. There is no evidence of malignancy.
Diagnosis: Left parathyroid: consistent with a parathyroid adenoma
