Parathyroid adenoma

Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

Fatigue with bone and joint pain. The biological investigations revealed hypercalcemia with elevated serum PTH level. The Sestamibi scan (not shown) revealed an uptake of the tracer on the right.

Patient Data

Age: 45 years
Gender: Female
ultrasound

There is a well-defined ovoid heterogeneous hypoechoic mass, caudal to the lower pole of the right thyroid lobe, measuring (22 x 13 x 10 mm) with internal vascularity on color Doppler.   

The thyroid gland was normal in size and echotexture.

Case Discussion

Blood tests,  Sestamibi scan, and ultrasound findings are most consistent with a parathyroid adenoma.
