Case contributed by Dr Domenico Nicoletti

Swelling right parotid region

Patient Data

Age: 56
Gender: Female

Neck ultrasound

Round hypoechoic neoformation with flow signals in the right parotid with associated multiple adenopathies. Useful biopsy.

Biopsy's histological report

 Neck MRI

The lesion is bounded in the upper portion of the parotid gland, extended from the most superficial to the deeper, also affecting the course of the facial nerve. The lesion with enhancement, shows well-defined contours and homogeneous structure with modest component necrotic. There are intra-parotid adenomegalies in the laterocervical site level 2.

Case Discussion

The patient was subjected to right parotidectomy and cervical lateral emptying.

Parotid malignant tumors are rare. There are low aggressive tumors (acinar cell carcinoma, muco-epidermal carcinoma) and more aggressive forms (squamous cell carcinoma, adenoid-cystic carcinoma).
