Presentation

Patient Data

Age: 35 years
Gender: Male

Greyscale showed average liver size with coarse texture, IVC is slightly dilated measuring 24 mm with hepatic vein dilatation 11 mm. generalized ascites and mild right side pleural effusion.

Doppler ultrasound of portal vein showed pulsatile blood flow, and the hepatic veins demonstrate normal triphasic flow with abnormally high amplitude retrograde flow.

Case Discussion

Greyscale and Doppler study compatible with passive liver congestion due to congestive heart failure, further evaluation with echocardiography was advised.
