As seen on the lateral X-ray, the patella is high-riding or patella alta. The Insall-Salvati ratio is the way to determine borders of normal.
As measured at the X-ray, the ratio of patellar tendon length to the length of patella is 1.3, with 1.2 being the upper border of normally positioned patella.
