Presentation

Knee pain post trauma.

Patient Data

Age: 65
Gender: Male

Patella alta. Bony fragments project anterior to the femur and may represent an avulsion fracture of the patellar ligament.  Soft tissue swelling anterior to the knee joint. No knee joint effusion. 

Case Discussion

The findings were confirmed surgically. Patellar avulsion fractures represent disruption of the extensor mechanism of the knee.
