Presentation
Sport injury 3 weeks ago.
Patient Data
There is a complete interruption of the patellar tendon at its mid-portion with 3.5 cm between the proximal and distal ends. No significant retraction of the patella, the Insall-Salvati ratio was at 1.34 (within normal limits). Mild joint effusion with edematous infiltration of the soft tissues and Hoffa's fat pad.
The medial patellar retinaculum is thickened with abnormal intrinsic high signal and adjacent periligamentous edema with incomplete disruption.
There is a medial meniscal tear (posterior horn) grade 2a, according to the MRI grading system for meniscal signal intensity.
ACL, and PCL, as well as the collateral ligaments, are intact.
Case Discussion
MRI features of patellar tendon rupture with involvement of the medial patellar retinaculum.
