Pathological fracture secondary to osteopetrosis

Patient Data

Age: 16
Gender: Male

Displaced left midshaft femoral fracture. 

Diffuse skeletal sclerosis with splaying of the metaphyses in keeping with known history of osteopetrosis.

Mildly comminuted left midshaft femoral fracture that is shortened with posterior displacement of the distal fracture fragment. No other fracture is identified on CT. However on the scout images a defect of the distal right femur is noted, if there is clinical concern of a fracture here, reformats can be provided if requested.

Diffuse skeletal sclerosis with splaying of the metaphyses in keeping with known history of osteopetrosis.

Case Discussion

Patient has a known diagnosis of osteopetrosis.
