Pathological lesser trochanter avulsion fracture

Painful hip. No history of trauma.

Patient Data

Age: 70 years
Gender: Male

Avulsion of the lesser trochanter of the left femur. Lucent region in the intertrochanteric region. No other fracture. Alignment within normal limits. 

Case Discussion

Non-traumatic avulsion of the lesser trochanter should be considered as metastatic disease until proven otherwise as demonstrated on biopsy in this patient. 

PATHOLOGIST COMMENT: Features demonstrate a B-cell lymphoma with small to medium cells. 

DIAGNOSIS: Left proximal femur, biopsy: B-cell lymphoma, NOS
