Pectoralis major injury

Presentation

A patient had a “pop” in the left pectoral region while bench-pressing about 4 weeks before the presentation.

Patient Data

Age: 25 years
Gender: Male
ultrasound

There is a fluid-filled defect ( about 20 x 20 x 10 mm) in the myotendinous junction of the pectoralis major sternal head. There is adjacent muscle edema. The clavicular head and abdominal heads of the muscle are normal. The pectoralis major tendon is intact. The biceps tendon is intact.

Case Discussion

The case shows pectoralis major sternal head myotendinous junction tear. This injury commonly occurs while bench-pressing as in this case.
