Chest deformity.

Age: 4 years
Gender: Male

Lateral X-ray of the chest reveals a mild anterior protrusion of the sternum indicative of pectus carinatum deformity of the chest wall.

Axial non-contrast CT scan of the child confirmed the anterior protrusion of the sternum as seen in the X-ray. The calculated Haller index is 2.6.

Case Discussion

Final diagnosis - mild chondrogladiolar pectus carinatum.

The Haller index is 2.6, with normal being up to 2.5. This suggests that the deformity is mild and should be managed conservatively.
