Pedunculated hepatic adenoma

Case contributed by Dr Bruno Di Muzio

Patient presented with right upper quadrant abdominal pain. Previous ultrasound study (images not available) showed a mass in right flank that has a liver connection by vascular pedicle.

Patient Data

Age: 32
Gender: Female

CT Abdomen and pelvis

There is a large hypervascular and encapsulated mass under and connected to the liver.

Case Discussion

The enhancement usually does not persist in adenomas  because of arteriovenous shunting. Larger hepatocellular adenomas may be more heterogeneous than smaller lesions, like this one.

On arterial-phase CT scan it is possible to spot the mass with large penetrating vessels.
