Pedunculated hepatic hemangioma, acute appendicitis

Case contributed by Michael P Hartung
Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

Right lower quadrant pain.

Patient Data

Age: 45
Gender: Female

Oval mass projecting from the inferior aspect of hepatic segment 3, with peripheral nodular discontinuous enhancement.

Acute uncomplicated appendicitis.

Hepatic steatosis.

Note: the sagittal images are unfortunately of degraded quality as they were reconstructed from the axial dataset, but I included them to help show the relationship of the hemangioma with the liver.

Case Discussion

Oval pedunculated hemangioma with characteristic enhancement pattern. This is an incidental finding in the setting of acute appendicitis, and does not require any further follow up or imaging.
